Second Meteorological Tower Collects More Data

National Wind Assessments, the wind resource analysis division of National Wind, installed the second on-site meteorological tower within the High Country Energy footprint, the week of January 28th, 2008. Four months ago, the first meteorological tower was installed. Studies thus far indicate strong wind speeds.

More than one year of continuous on-site wind data from various locations within a project’s footprint is needed to accurately assess the wind.

“Existing wind data only tells about the wind in the general area, not a specific site,” says Kevin Romuld, President of National Wind Assessments. “Specific on-site data is needed to assess our wind resource, helping determine the best wind turbine locations for commercial wind energy production. Collecting several year’s worth of on-site data is becoming a crucial industry standard.”

National Wind Assessments conducted a preliminary wind study last summer. This study utilized existing wind data and topographical information, which indicated an excellent wind regime.
